This article examines the link between the greater recognition given to a part of the anglophone Quebec music scene and the development of English arts and cultural organizations and institutions in Quebec. To the extent that the notion of the two solitudes applies to the art world, it is changing in the case of Franco- and Anglo-Quebec coproductions, which are attracting a new audience that, although still poorly circumscribed, is primarily a bilingual audience from Montreal. We address this issue in dealing with the Anglo-Quebec identity and its relation to culture, describing many aspects of institutionalization and professionalization of anglophone artists in Quebec since the 1960s, and then attempting to identify recent changes in the Anglo-Montreal music scene in addressing the issue of generational take over and cultural diversity.
