Abstract
Census returns of 1971 indicate that outside the province of Quebec, francophones tend to become strongly anglicized. Ethnic French tend to consider English as their maternal language and to speak English within the family. The trend is most pronounced in the western provinces. It is also strong in Ontario and appears in the Maritime Provinces where only New Brunswick maintains a strong French influence. 5 tables. [A. W. Novitsky]
