Abstract
This paper employs 1981 Census data to estimate the degree of earnings disparities among linguistic groups in Quebec in 1980. The estimates are comparable to those previously published using 1971 Census data and indicate that earnings differentials between anglophones and francophones were substantially reduced, if not eliminated, over the decade. The results suggest that important changes occurred in Quebec labour markets, and these can be ascribed to a combination of factors, including legislative interventions. The evidence also suggests that the major gains accrued to francophone males.
