Abstract
This study compares compositions, in the form of narrative and argumentative texts written in English by 8th grade francophone students attending French schools, with compositions written by anglophone students attending English schools in an anglophone majority community. Apart from orthography (spelling) and some weaknesses in verb and pronoun use for which the authors noted significant differences, the findings show that the syntactic maturity in English of francophone students and that of anglophone students are not significantly different.
