Identity building includes an important spatial dimension. This study highlights significant places for French-speaking New Brunswick teenagers and attempts to understand how their spatial identity is constructed. Using an original method combining commented itinerary and life stories, the authors define four continuums that illustrate the types of identity relationships the teenagers establish in relation to the territory: from the individual to the collective, from the past to the future, from the natural to the built, and from the utilitarian to the existential. These continuums allow for an integration of the generally acknowledged components of identity building and their territorial foundations.
